Overall health often takes a lot of work and concentration, especially when first implementing change. It is important to think about all aspects of your life and promote activities which affect all areas. Attitude can literally save your life! Laughter is indeed the best medicine, as a very wise man once wrote! People have been known to actually reverse terminal diseases by watching funny movies! But, again, not all people always cured. Sleep is another important aspect. Another wise man wrote “early to bed and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise”.

Although, I’m not too sure about the wealthy, it has been proven that the most important hours of sleep are the hours before midnight. Which is why you can go to sleep at 1 am and sleep a full 8 hours, but still feel very tired, but go to sleep at 9pm and sleep 8 hours and feel refreshed. More and more sleep studies emphasize the need for a good night’s sleep to stay healthy. `The body does most of its repair at night – from the brain to every organ system. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of a good night’s sleep! Another important area is exercise. It is extremely important to MOVE! Again, studies are constantly supporting the knowledge that exercise can help in almost every area – emotional, mental, and physical. From increasing our body’s own endorphins, to moving lymph for detoxification, to keeping heart and muscles toned, everything is affected.

There are options from joining a gym (as long as you use it!), walking, jogging, hiking, yoga, stretching, home gyms, mini-trampolines, etc. Cardio should be 30 minutes a day 5-6 days a week, and some strength training added in at least 3 days/wk. Whatever you choose, breathe deeply and move! In conclusion, everything in this lifestyle change program is there for a reason and can support your whole goal of total health improvement, so take a deep breath, sit down, read through it, make a grocery list, and really start to learn how to live!
